Tsunami village relief programme
The Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 was an occurrence that needs no introduction from this web site. However the devastating effects of the tidal wave on 26 December three years ago have dropped off the radar of Western media by and large by now.
Nevertheless the very great need goes on and the false perception that there is a surplus of aid monies for this cause, belies the fact that no aid has reached some affected communities whatsoever.

The problems of misinformation regarding the extent of the need are compounded by bad newspaper headlines concerning the tsunami aid policies of some major international aid organisations. However GTWF is always happy to receive more badly-needed donations for this specific cause.
Specific needs in Kakinada
As well as direct food aid in the form of cereal grain handouts on a regular basis, GTWF is working through the Grace Children home to rebuild the infrastructure of the village we have decided to focus upon.
The old adage of "teach a man how to fish and you feed him for life" has not been lost upon GTWF. The following specific tasks have been identified as priortities:
- Rebuilding of houses for villagers
- Replacement of fishing vessels lost or damaged during the flood
- Liaison with village elders to discuss their changing needs as things develop
