Successful operation in Chennai

Manga Lakshmi continues to make good progress following a recent polio-corrective operation on her left leg. The operation was carried out by specialist Dr Gopalakrishnan at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai, formerly Madras.

As was the case with Pudi, Gosala, Usha, Parvathi and other before her, she underwent the manipulation of her leg by Iliazarov Ring Fixator Fixation. The resulting apparatus will gradually have the screws tightened until the leg is made to adapt to its correct natural position.

Post-operative progress

Manga is now up and about and looking forward to making further progress with her mobility.

  • The GCH has special rooms set aside with a variety of rehabilitative equipment
  • A qualified physiotherapist works in the home every day to give bespoke advice and encouragement to the kids
  • There are a number of other GCH children who have made great progress following their orthopaedic surgery
  • The home's grounds provide opportunities for walks and sporting activities to help them get mobile again
  • A dedicated team of experienced helpers are on site at the home at all times to counsel our "surgery children"
