About the Grace Third World Fund (GTWF)

On the left you can see the cathedral city of Peel in the Isle of Man where the story of our work in India first started.

Although the charity was officially constituted in 1998, things really started in 1996 when two of the future GTWF trustees visited India and saw the plight of one particular boy, Muddada Raju.

Since that time, GTWF has registered as an official Isle of Man charitable organisation and has raised many tens of thousands of pounds for needy causes in the third world.

What we offer

GTWF offers help and hope for scores of children in India, well below the poverty line which applies to children in the UK. We offer a safe and secure home environment for orphans whom have previously begged or hawked goods at railway stations or been abandoned due to family difficulties or tribal disputes.

We also offer the chance of having life-saving or life-changing surgery to children whose families could never pay for it themselves on their India wages.

How we work

GTWF works differently to many larger charities. Firstly we don't just pass funds to large unaccountable bureaucracies in the location of need. We work through long-standing relationships with small groups of trusted individuals who are based actually on the ground at the point of need.

Secondly all costs relating to our travelling expenses incurred in the line of GTWF business are borne by the trustees and not by donated funds, except for those occasions where considerate benefactors have given monies specifically for that purpose.

Thirdly the administrative and other manhours carried out by the trustees are entirely voluntary so that very few costs are charged back to the charity itself. When you give a pound to GTWF for a specific cause or project that whole pound goes out to the point of need in India.

A sketch history of our charity

Since its inception Grace Third World Fund has paid for surgery for 16 children. 12 have had life-changing orthopaedic operations, and 4 have had life-saving cardiac operations. Details of these children are supplied in the PDF download file below.

A lot of water has passed underneath the bridge since the pioneering days of the mid to late '90s. Our Secretary has painstakingly put together a chronological summary of our activities to date.
